CAIRO-11 March 2021: In a surprising move, Zamalek have reached an agreement with their former French manager, Patrice Carteron, to take charge of the team.

According to Egypt Today sources, Carteron will be announced as Zamalek new manager after Zamalek's match against Ceramica Cleopatra FC, scheduled on Thursday night in the Egyptian League.

Carteron will succeed Jaime Pacheco, who was appointed Zamalek's head coach last October to succeed Carteron himself.

Carteron coached Zamalek between December 2019 and September 2020, having led the club to win the Egyptian Super Cup and the African Super Cup titles.

He also led Zamalek to the CAF Champions League semis before announcing his departure from the club before Zamalek's match against Raja Casablanca.

Pacheco took over and led Zamalek to the competition's final but they lost the African title to arch-rivals Al Ahly in the dying minutes of the game.

The decision to re-sign Carteron caused much contraversy between Zamalek fans and they are divided between supporters and opponents of the decision.

Zamalek suffered a poor run recently under Jaime Pacheco and they are in a difficult situation in the CAF Champions League competition as they are third in the group with only two points after three matches.

In the domestic league, Zamalek are atop of the table with 30 points from 13 matches but they could lose their lead as Al Ahly come second with 27 points from 11 matches.
