CAIRO-6 March 2021: Zamalek lost 3-1 against Esperance in Tunisia in Matchday 3 of CAF Champions League group stage and they are now third in the group with only two points after three games.

The home team had a strong start to the game, creating many goal-scoring chances to open the score early in the match.

Esperance got what they wanted after 26 minutes by their Ivorian striker William Togui who received a wonderful pass from Zamalek’s former winger, Hamdi Niguez, and shot the ball in the back of the net to make the score 1-0.

Zamalek responded strongly after the opening goal and missed many clear chances to score as the team’s strikers missed sharpness in the box. However, the response came from Zamalek’s left back Ahmed Abo El Fotouh, as he shot the ball using his weak right foot and his shot found the target to make the score 1-1.

Zamalek dominated the next minutes and they were the favorites to add the second goal but a silly tackle inside the box from Zamalek’s defender resulted in a penalty for the home team, which Mohamed Ali converted to make the score 2-1.

In the second half, the game became more difficult for Zamalek as Abo El Fotouh was red-carded and left his team playing the rest of the match with 10 players.

Mohamed Ali was the hero again for the home team when he added the third goal, which was enough for Esperance to secure an important victory.

The White Knights’ situation in the group became more complicated as they are third in the group, three points behind MC Alger and five points behind Esperance.
