File- Spain defeated Germany to take a big step towards quarter-finals

CAIRO-22 January 2021: Spain handball national team defeated Germany 32:28 on Thursday night in their first match of the main round Group A.

New Administrative Capital hall witnessed a solid performance from the two European superpowers but the Spanish team managed to get the victory to take a huge step towards the quarter-finals.

"Today's win was huge for us, a huge step towards qualification. We're close to qualification, but we still want to win the next two games. We want to go far in this tournament." Spain coach Jordi Ribera said after the match.

The Spaniards reached five points and they are second in the group, one point behind the leaders, Hungary.

On the other hand, the Germans are fourth in the group with only two points and they need a miracle to book a place in the quarter-finals.

Germany's Fabian Bohm reflected on his team's loss, saying "We played well but there were 10 minutes when we weren't at our best. We made mistakes, and couldn't kill off the game."

Spain will face Uruguay in the second round while Germany will take on Brazil.
