CAIRO-18 January 2021: Sweden defeated Egypt 24-23 on Monday night at Cairo Stadium Indoor Halls Complex in the last round of Group G.

Egypt put on a heroic performance against the four-time champions but failed to keep their first-half lead to lose the last match of the preliminary round.

Sweden and Egypt accompained North Macedonia to the main round after North Macedonia's victory over Chile.

This loss made the Egyptian team's mission harder in the competition as the hosts qualified to the main round with two points while Sweden advanced to the main round with four points.

The aforementioned teams will challenge the three teams advanced from Group H, the Russian Handball Federation, Slovenia and Belarus, for two spots in the quarter-finals.

Egypt hosts the competition between 13 and 31 January 2021, with the participation of 32 teams for the first time in the competition's history.
