CAIRO-14 January 2021: Iceland handball national team goalkeeper Viktor Gísli Hallgrímsson believes that his team has a chance to reach quarter-finals in the IHF Men's Handball World Cup.

"It was always a dream for me to participate in the World Cup and I am so excited. I think that our team has a chance to reach the quarter-finals." Hallgrímsson said.

This participation will be the 21th for Iceland in the World Cup while their best achievement in the competition came in 1997 in Japan and 2007 in Germany when they reached the quarter-finals.

Hallgrímsson added "We have a young team and we will do our maximum to go far in this tournament. We are also playing in a balanced group as we played against Portugal many times and it will be a good opportunity for us to play against Morocco and Algeria."

Iceland will open their participation in the competition on Thursday night against Portugal at the New Administrative Capital's sports hall.

Egypt hosts the competition between 13 and 31 January 2021, with the participation of 32 teams for the first time in the competition's history.
