Egypt’s Veteran misses World Cup opener

CAIRO-13 January 2021: Egypt handball national team head coach Roberto García Parrondo announced the team’s squad for the opening game of the 2021 World Men's Handball Championship against Chile.

Parrondo revealed the 16-man squad for the match which consisted of: Mohamed Essam El Tayar, Karim Hendawy, Omar El Wakil, Ahmed Moamen, Ali Zein, Yehia El Daree, Seif El Daree, Hassan Kaddah, Yehia Khaled, Ahmed Hesham El Sayed, Mohsen Ramadan, Mohamed Sanad, Akram Yousry, Mohamed Mamdouh Hashem, Wissam Nawar and Ebrahim El Masry.

Egypt’s squad did not include Egypt’s winger Ahmed El Ahmar besides Eslam Hassan, Ahmed Hisham Sisa and Abdelrahman Faisal.

Egypt plays in Group G alongside Chile, Sweden and Macedonia.

Egypt hosts the competition between 13 and 31 January 2020, with the participation of 32 teams for the first time in the competition's history.

The Egyptian team finished 6th when Egypt hosted the tournament for the first time in 1999 and two years later the Pharaohs finished fourth, which is the Pharaohs' best achievement in the history of the competition.
