CAIRO, 23 November 2020: The Ethics Committee of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) decided to suspend Ahmed Ahmed, President of the Confederation of Confederation of African Football (CAF), due to financial misconduct.

According to the letter published by FIFA, the suspension of Malagasy was due to his breach of Articles 15 of the "duty of loyalty" to the running institution, Article 20 regarding not receiving gifts or services, Article 25 regarding abuse of position and Article 28 regarding misappropriation of expenses, in the Code of Ethics for Viva.

Because of these violations, the committee decided to suspend Ahmed Ahmed for a period of 5 years from practicing any activity related to football, in addition to a fine of 200,000 Swiss francs.

Consequently, Ahmed loses his position as president of the Confederation of African Football and as vice-president of Gianni Infantino, President of FIFA.

Ahmed will not be able to compete with Ivorian Jacques Anoma, Senegalese Augustine Senghor, Mauritanian Ahmed Ould Yahya, and South African Patrice Mutsipi, in the CAF presidential elections next March.

Ahmed Ahmed took over the presidency of the African Union in March 2017, after he ousted Cameroonian Issa Hayatou from his position as he was the president for more than  3 decades.
