CAIRO-21 November 2020: Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola stated that he wants Lionel Messi to finish his career in Barcelona.

Messi revealed last summer that he wants to leave his childhood club, with many rumors linked him with a move to Manchester City to train under Guardiola’s command.

“Messi is a Barcelona player. I said it a thousand times. As a fan, I want Leo to finish there." Guardiola said.

The Spanish manager extended his contract with Manchester City, which led to many speculations about the transfer of Barcelona star to the Citizens.

Guardiola added “His contract finishes this year [season] and I don't know what will happen in his mind,”

The Spanish manager is one of Barcelona legends as he wore the Azulgrana jersey since he was a kid and he rose through the ranks of Barcelona's youth academy till he joined the first team in 1990.

Barcelona was a key player in the club’s golden generation of the 90s before leaving the club in 2001.

Guardiola also coached Barcelona between 2008 and 2012 in one of the brightest eras in the club’s history.
