CAIRO-19 October 2020: Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman believes that the team captain Lionel Messi’s performances can improve in the next stages of the season.

Koeman said "I think his performances could be better, but seeing him day after day I can see that he's happy and training well.”

Messi had a tough summer after his conflict with the club board as they refused to allow him to leave the club for free and he was forced to stay in Barcelona.

However, Koeman believes that the player is happy, focused and determined to do his best for the club.

“He's focused, he wants to be the captain and he wants to play. I have neither complaints nor doubts about him." Koeman added.

Barcelona suffered a 1-0 defeat to Getafe on Saturday night in the Spanish League and they are awaiting a tough week as they open Champions League season at home against Hungary’s Ferencvárosi TC on Tuesday before hosting arch-rivals Real Madrid in the league on Saturday.

Koeman commented on tomorrow’s game, saying « We expect [to face] a complicated team. We have to stop their quality. They are good at the back and have important players in attack."
