Wydad manager optimistic ahead of Al Ahly clash

CAIRO-13 October 2020: Wydad Casablanca manager Miguel Ángel Gamondi revealed that his team will fight to win the tie against Al Ahly and reach CAF Champions League final.

“We gave our players a day-off before focusing on the game against Al Ahly.” Gamondi said.

Wydad are having tough days after losing the domestic league title in a dramatic way as their arch-rivals, Raja, scored a last-minute goal to win the game against AS FAR Rabat and secure the league title.

Gamondi added “I am optimistic despite all the obstacles. We have injured players and many players who are not eligible to participate against Al Ahly but we are an experienced team when it comes to African competitions.”  

Wydad host Al Ahly on Saturday in the CAF Champions League semi-final first leg and the second leg will be played a week later in Cairo.

Al Ahly has won a record 8 CAF Champions League titles but they failed to win the title since 2013.
