CAIRO – 23 June 2017: The organizing committee of Basketball U 19 World Cup reached an agreement with the Egyptian band Sharmoofers to perform in the opening ceremony of the competition on July 1 in Cairo Stadium.

Sharmoofers is a well-known band in Egypt who has a big fan base, the organizing committee hopes that their popularity will attract Egyptian fans to the matches.
Egypt hosts the competition from July 1-9 for the first time. 16 teams will participate in the competition divided in four groups.

Egypt plays in group A alongside Lithuania, Puerto Rico and Germany, Egypt will play Puerto Rico in the opening match then Lithuania and they will end the group matches facing Germany.

Egypt had participated in 5 editions of the competition and their best result was achieving 11th position twice in 2009 in New Zealand and 2015 in Greece, Egyptian team hopes to take advantage of playing in front of their fans to get a better result.
