CAIRO_17 April 2020: Portuguese manager, José Mourinho, was set to start his journey in English football from Liverpool instead of London, according to French journalist, Nicholas Villas' new book 'Mourinho: Behind the Special One, from the origin to the glory,’

The new book details how close the Portuguese manager was from coaching Liverpool after reaching an agreement with then Liverpool's Chief Executive, Rick Barry.

'Mourinho should have gone to Liverpool. Rick Parry was in charge of transfers and we had an agreement.' Jorge Baidek, Mourinho's former adviser, recalled.

At the time, Liverpool were preparing for Gerrard Houllier's post era and they saw Mourinho as a perfect replacement for the French manager.

Baidek added 'They asked us to wait for 15 days as Houllier was still the Reds’ manager."

Mourinho's agent, Jorge Mendez, was behind the manager's decision to reject the deal as he got him another offer from Chelsea, where Roman Abramovic was ready to rebuild the club.
