CAIRO-3 April 2020: Egypt international defender, Ahmed Fathy, revealed on Friday that he decided not to renew his contract with his current club, Al Ahly, as he wants to participate in 2022 World Cup.

"People believe I did not renew my contract because of financial reasons which is not true. Al Ahly's offer is the best for me on financial level." Fathy said.

It has been reported that the 35-year-old right-back [Fathy] refused to extend his contract with Al Ahly after receiving a stronger offer financially from Pyramids FC.

As a result, Al Ahly released an official statement wishing Fathy all the best of luck in his future career.

Fathy added "Al Ahly manager told me that I am not able to play week in week out and It is not true. I want to leave to play in regular basis so I can be fit for 2022 World Cup."

Fathy, who participated in 2018 World Cup with Egypt, has many offers and rumours linked him with a move to Pyramids.
