Guardiola donates €1m to help fight coronavirus

Pep Guardiola, Manchester City’s manager, has donated one million euros in an attempt to help Spain fight the spread of the coronavirus.

The Spanish manager [Guardiola] who is from Barcelona and is currently there with his family donated to the Medical College of Barcelona and the Angel Soler Daniel Foundation.

"Pep Guardiola has made a donation of one million euros to the Fundacio Angel Soler Daniel for the acquisition and supply of health equipment to deal with the Covid-19 [coronavirus] pandemic," the Foundation announced in a statement, according to Sky Sports.

Moreover, the foundation announced in their statement that such donations will also be used to help finance protective items for health works such as respirator masks.

"The fundraising campaign led by the Official College of Doctors of Barcelona and managed through the Foundation, is aimed at obtaining cash donations from doctors who are members of the college and the general population to buy health equipment which is currently lacking in hospitals in Catalonia,” the Foundation concluded their statement, as reported by Sky Sports.

Spain is currently the fourth largest country that is negatively impacted by the spread of the pandemic having around 39,800 people infected with about a total recovery of about 3,700 and more than 2,800 dead.

Ever since the outbreak of the coronavirus in Wuhan, China on 1 December 2019 around 417,000 people were infected and about 18,000 people died because of the disease.

As a result, Spain, Italy, England and several other countries decided to suspend their sports competitions due to the coronavirus being widespread among 196 countries and territories.
