Former Liverpool and England international John Barnes believes that the current Premier League season should be completed.

In an interview with Sky Sports News, Barnes explained his perspective about the current suspension of most European Leagues following the coronavirus outbreak.

"You have leagues to be finished and I think leagues have to be finished, not just from Liverpool's point of view or any other club in any country,” Barnes told Sky Sports.

Additionally, the 56 year-old veteran footballer [Barnes] commented on the idea of giving Liverpool the Premier League title while still dismissing the rest of the season.

"If you are going to give Liverpool the title, then who would get promoted and relegated? You can't just give Liverpool the title because we are so far ahead,” Barnes added to Sky Sports.

If this season is dismissed Liverpool won't have the opportunity to be crowned as champions of the Premier League for their first time ever despite having a 25 points lead, according to the current rules of the Premier League.

Lastly, Barnes, who scored 120 goals throughout his whole career, believes that the leagues should be continued even though if it would affect the league next season.

"Even if we have to start in July or August, what we have to do is finish these games even if it takes up until December, which writes off the [next] season.

Ever since the outbreak of the coronavirus in Wuhan, China on 1 December 2019 around 188,000 people were infected and about 7,500 people died because of the disease.

As a result, several countries such as Spain, Italy, France, and England suspended their sports competitions due to the coronavirus being widespread among around 132 countries and territories.
