CAIRO - 13 March 2020: The English Football Association announced earlier this morning the suspension of English football competitions until 3 April at the earliest.

The decision to suspend England’s top flight football came after Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, was tested positive for COVID-19 [Coronavirus] along with other Premier League players.

English Football Association’s statement read: "The FA, Premier League, EFL and Barclays FA Women's Super League and FA Women's Championship have collectively agreed to postpone the professional game in England until 3 April at the earliest."

This action, which will be kept under constant review, has been taken due to the increasing numbers of clubs taking steps to isolate their players and staff because of the COVID-19 virus," as reported from ESPN.

England’s decision to suspend their sports competitions came after several countries such as Spain, Italy and France took the same decisions with their sports competitions due to COVID-19 being widespread among 132 countries and territories.

Ever since the outbreak of the COVID-19 in Wuhan, China on December 1st 2019 around 138,900 people were infected and 5,100 people died because of the disease.
