CAIRO – 18 June 2017: On this day in 1997, Arsenal announced their completion to two new signings that heavily impacted Arsenal’s squad in the following three seasons.

The French International midfielder Emmanuel Petit and the Dutch International player Marc Overmars signed to Arsenal on a deal that did cost the English club £ 10.3 million ($13 million), according to Talk Sport.

After three years Arsenal sold both Petit and Overmars to Barcelona on a deal that cost £ 30 million, according to the Telegraph.

Petit and Overmars managed to win the double with Arsenal in 1998 by winning the Premier League and FA Cup.

According to Arsenal’s official website the former Arsenal midfielder Overmars was voted on 2008 as the 12th greatest player in Arsenal by the fans of the club, while Petit is known for scoring the last goal in the World Cup of 1998 with France against Brazil in order to make the final score 3-0.
