CAIRO – 17 June 2017: Two goals by Saleh Gomaa led Al-Ahly to win 4-2 against Smouha on Friday night, during the 31st week of the Egyptian League. With this win, Ahly reached 79 points, securing its spot at the top of the league table.

Gomaa, Ahly midfielder, opened the score in minute 16, but Eslam Mohareb, Smouha striker, brought the score again to a 1-1 draw shortly after.

Moamen Zakaria then scored a second goal quickly for Ahly, to end the first half 2-1. Saleh Gomaa scored the third goal in the second half before Sayed Farid, Smouha Captain, scored his team’s second goal via a penalty kick.

The final goal scored by Al Ahly defender, Ramy Rabia, in the last minutes prevented Smouha from ending the match on a draw, with the final score standing at 4-2.

Smouha retained its 5th position with 51 points, and dwindling chances to compete in the African Championship next year.

The match result has little significance for Ahly since the club won first position in the league on the 30th week after a draw against Misr El Makasa. Nevertheless, Ahly coach, Hossam El-Badry, wanted to give players the opportunity to prove themselves.

On Thursday, June 22, Ahly travel to Morocco to face Wydad Athletic Club in the African Champions League.
