CAIRO – 6 October 2019: Egypt volleyball national team lost 3-1 to Russia during the fifth round of 2019 FIVB World Cup in Japan.

The Russians dominated the game at the first set and the Egyptian team made many mistakes that granted the Russians an easy 25-19 victory at the first set.

The Egyptians fought back at the second set to return in the game and they produced their best performance during the game after they won 25-21.

The Russians dominated the third and fourth sets which ended 25-19 and 25-21 for the Russians who won the game 3-1.

“Today Russia was too strong for us at the net, but especially on the float serve they killed us. We tried to do something back in the same way, tactically, but the Russians have too many options in attack and great setters, so in the end we could not manage to control the game, only for one set.” Egypt coach Gido Vermeulen said after the game.

Egypt started their run at the competition with two victories over Australia and Iran respectively but then they suffered three losses to Brazil, Canada and Russia.

The manager commented on Egypt’s overall performance at the competition, saying “Every game we played here we had chances to win and we made it difficult for other teams. Our win over Australia was very good, our Iran game was a surprise, Brazil we competed on a high level. I think Canada we had a chance to win, that’s our only regret of this week here.”

Egyptians will take three days rest before returning to action on Wednesday against Italy.
