CAIRO – 8 August 2019: The Merseyside Police investigates racial tweets published on Wednesday night against Liverpool Egyptian winger, Mohamed Salah.

A Twitter user, supporting Liverpool rivals, Everton, posted a number of posts including racist pictures against the Egyptian winger.

Everton issued a statement condemning the fan’s behavior, saying” Everton condemns in the strongest terms any kind of racism. We have shared the material with the appropriate authorities and are looking into the matter further to understand if the Twitter user in question is known to the Club in any way."

Everton shared the posts with the authorities who opened investigations in the incident.

Everton fan group County Road Bobblers also condemned the fan’s racial tweets against Salah, saying “Supporting a team in this city makes us understand diversity.”

Salah and his teammates are preparing for the new season of the Premier League on Friday night against Norwich City at Anfiled.

Salah led his team to win UEFA Champions League title last season, having defeated Tottenham 2-0 with Salah opening the score from the penalty spot.
