CAIRO – 20 March 2019: Al Ahly Football Director, Sayed Abdel Hafiz, revealed on Wednesday that the team clash against South African giants, Mamelodi Sundowns, at the quarter finals of CAF Champions League is an early final.
“It is an early final for us and we expect a tough clash against the South African giants. They have the same motivation to reach the semifinals.” Abdel Hafiz told Filgoal after the draw.
Abdel Hafiz was among Al-Ahly squad that wo CAF Champions League title in 2001 after defeating the South African team 4-1 on aggregate at the final and Abdel Hafiz scored Al-Ahly only goal at the first leg in South Africa.
Al-Ahly reached the quarter finals after the team topped group D with 10 points from three victories at home over Tanzania’s Simba, Algerian club, JS Saoura and AS Vita Vlub from Congo and they lost two games in Congo and Tanzania while their game against JS Saoura in Algeria with a draw.
On the other hand, Sundowns reached the quarter finals as the runners-up of group A after they gained 10 points, the same as the leaders, Wydad Casablanca of Morocco, but the Head-to-head away goals rule granted the the Moroccan team the leadership.
The winner will face the winner between Horoya of Guinea and Wydad Casablanca.
