CAIRO – 14 October 2018: Zamalek board announced on Sunday, Oct. 14 that the club will participate at the CAF Confederation Cup next season, according to the club official website.

The club board previously said that they will boycott all African competitions after CAF banned club president, Mortada Mansour, for one year from all football-related activities.

Zamalek qualified to the Confederation Cup after achieving the Egyptian Cup title defeating Smouha by penalty shootout.

Zamalek had a tough participation at the Confederation Cup this season as they were knocked out at the first round by Ethiopia’s Welayta Dicha.
Zamalek lost the first game 2-1 in Ethiopia and they won 2-1 in Cairo but lost the game by penalty shootout.

On the other hand, Zamalek will play a friendly game against Porto Suez on October 21 to prepare for the clash against Al-Ittihad Alexandria at Arab Club Championship.

Zamalek reached this round after they knocked out Kuwaiti club, Qadsia SC, while Al-Ittihad qualified after knocking out Tunisian giants, Esperence.

Both teams met at the Egyptian League this season and Zamalek won the game 5-0.
