CAIRO – 25 May 2018: Al-Ahly honorary president Turki Al-Sheikh announced on Thursday that he will leave his position at the Egyptian League Champions, Al-Ahly.

“It was a great honor to be Al-Ahly honorary president in the recent months. Al-Ahly will stay in my heart and I hope the club will keep improving and will keep making fans happy,” Al-Sheikh’s statement read.

Al-Sheikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Sports Authority, played a great role at the club with financial support.

Al-Sheikh‘s statement added: “I was keen on making Al-Ahly and their fans my top priorities and I followed their worries and ambitions with much interest.”

The relation between Turki Al-Sheikh and Al-Ahly fans came to an end when Al-Ahly’s negotiations with Argentinean manager Ramon Diaz failed and he was appointed Al-Ittihad Jeddah’s new manager.

“Diaz was so close to sign for an Arab club (Al-Ahly), but the Saudi Arabian teams have the priority,” Al-Sheikh said on Wednesday after Diaz’s agreement with Ittihad Jeddah.

Al-Sheikh was named Al-Ahly’s honorary president on Dec. 31, 2017.
