CAIRO – 17 May 2018: Aston Villa’s clash against Middlesbrough in the second leg of the Championship play-off semi-final in Villa Park Stadium on Tuesday ended in a goalless draw. The draw sent Aston Villa to the Championship play-off final.

Aston Villa players entered the game with an away victory advantage, as they defeated Middlesbrough 1-0 in the first leg.

Aston Villa missed their Egyptian defender Ahmed Elmohamady due to injury, and he was replaced by James Bree in the starting line-up.

Aston Villa defender James Chester had a chance to open the score minutes before the half time, but his shot missed the target, ending the first half 0-0.

In the second half, the hosts continued their attempts to open the score through their striker Lewis Grabban, but the opponent’s goalkeeper, Darren Randolph, blocked all his shots.

Both teams failed to find the back of the net in the remaining minutes of the game, ending the clash 0-0.



Aston Villa is set to face Fulham in the Championship play-off final on May 26 at Wembley Stadium.
