CAIRO – 13 April 2018: Tunisian national team coach Nabil Maaloul declared that the Tunisian midfielder Youssef Msakni will not participate in the 2018 World Cup.

Qatari club Al-Duhail confirmed that Msakni suffered a cruciate ligament injury in the 5-2 win over Al Sailiya, and the 27-year-old initially believed his World Cup chances were over.

“Msakni will not feature in the next World Cup with Tunisia,” Maaloul told Al-Kass channel.

"He had a severe injury; definitely he needs months to recover and return to play football," Maaloul added.

"Sadly this injury has denied me a chance to continue with my club and to play in the World Cup," Msakni wrote on Instagram.

Tunisia places in the seventh group of the World Cup alongside England, Belgium and Panama.

"Sadly this injury has denied me a chance to continue with my club and to play in the World Cup," Msakni wrote on Instagram.

Msakni had an important role in the qualification of Tunisia for the first time since 2006. He played four games; scored three and assisted two. He scored nine international goals in 39 games with Carthage Eagles.
