CAIRO – 28 February 2018: Egypt’s Ambassador to Belgrade Amr Aljowaily met on Wednesday with the leaders of the Federation and the Serbian National Team in preparation for the 2018 World Cup.

The meeting came in the framework of the embassy’s efforts to promote the sports cooperation between Egypt and Serbia, Aljowaily said.

He added that these meetings are a follow-up to the meetings which took place between the two ministers of youth and sports on the sidelines of the World Youth Forum in Sharm El-Sheikh last November.

Aljowaily met with President of the Serbian Football Federation, Slaviza Kokeza, and Boran Bujevcevic, the Technical Director of the Serbian National Team, in the presence of Mr. Nemanja Stevanovic, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as with Mr. Nemanja Filipovic, Deputy Technical Director of the Serbian football team.

He also added that they agreed to promote coordination between the two football teams in preparation for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

In the same context, the World Cup trophy will arrive in Cairo on March 15 and 16 in a ceremony that will be held under the patronage of the ministry of youth and sports. This visit aims to give Egyptian football fans the chance to see the trophy of the biggest prize in the world of football tournaments, and to celebrate Egypt's qualification to the World Cup after a 28-year absence from the global football arena.

The World Cup tour includes 91 cities and 51 countries on six continents to give millions around the world the chance to be prepared for the world's biggest sports tournament.

The World Cup draw put Egypt in Group A alongside Saudi Arabia, Uruguay and the host nation, Russia. Egypt plays their opening game against Uruguay on June 15.
