CAIRO – 28 January 2018: Arsenal's coach Arsene Wenger, confirmed at a press conference on Friday that it is "possible" Arsenal may sign Borussia Dortmund's forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang , although negotiations are still far from being finished.

"It is possible, but we are far from closing it, even though we will sign someone if the opportunity is given," said Wenger in the preview of Arsenal’s Premier League match against Swansea next Tuesday, Swansea are currently bottom of the Premier League table.

The departure of striker Alexis Sanchez, one of the Gunners’ biggest stars, to Manchester United has prompted a series of rumors about possible players joining Arsenal, as is the case with the Gabonese 28-year-old Aubameyang.

The arrival of the Dortmund striker, who scored 31 goals in the Bundesliga last season, could displace Frenchman Olivier Giroud in Arsenal's rotation, although Wenger said he wants the Frenchman to stay.

"I want Olivier (Giroud) to stay, I've already told you, if nobody comes, no one will leave, maybe one or two young players will be on loan, but the most experienced part of the team will continue, unless we incorporate people," stated the coach.

Coach of the Gunners also underlined the club's desire to keep German midfielder Mesut Özil in their ranks, who is out of contract this summer.

"Our intention is to stay with Özil, hopefully we will get it soon, we are not far enough from signing an agreement to be optimistic, or far enough to be pessimistic," he said.

"He behaves like someone who is completely focused and committed, but then the negotiations are the way they are," Wenger concluded.
