CAIRO - 15 January 2018: Former International English striker, Michael Owen was not so happy when he left his childhood club, Liverpool to join Spanish giants, Real Madrid, in 2004.

“I decided I had to go, but even so I was crying all the way from my house to the airport, a part of me never wanted to leave. When Real Madrid asked me to join them in 2004, a part of me felt flattered," Owen told Daily Mail on Monday.

Owen, born in Liverpool joined the club when he was just 12; he earned his debut with the first team at 17 and established himself as a starting striker at Liverpool before he decided to leave the club in 2004 to join Real Madrid.

Owen believes that former Liverpool Brazilian attacking midfielder, Philippe Coutinho had different feelings when he joined Barcelona on January 6 2018.

“Judging from the photos of Coutinho on his way to Barcelona, he didn't feel the same way I did. It seemed as if he were in utopia,” Owen Remarked.

Coutinho joined Barcelona after being linked with the club since the last summer.
