Dec 23 (The Sports Xchange) - Two weeks after signing a standard contract with the Phoenix Suns, point guard Mike James was waived Saturday.

James was let go to make room for guard Isaiah Canaan, who had been signed to a hardship contract when guard Devin Booker was sidelined with an injury. Canaan has been productive, and with Booker returning soon, Canaan was signed to a contract for the rest of the season.

The 27-year-old James signed a two-way contract in the offseason, and that expired Dec. 6. The next day he was signed to a standard contract, becoming the first two-way signee to get a standard contract.

James averaged 10.4 points and 3.8 assists while playing in 32 games, including 10 starts. But his playing time was reduced when Canaan arrived.

Canaan is averaging 13.0 points, 5.0 assists and 25.0 minutes in his four games with the Suns. He played one game for the Houston Rockets earlier this season.
