CAIRO – 17 December: French striker Alexandre Lacazette explained why he agreed to move to Arsenal despite Atletico Madrid’s attempts to sign him last summer.

Olympique Lyon's president said last summer that Lacazette was close to moving to Atletico Madrid, but negotiations broke down after Atletico was banned from signing new players in 2017 by FIFA and the Sports Court.

However, Lacazette had another say on joining Arsenal, not Atletico: “what made me want to come to Arsenal was the speech I had with coach Arsene Wenger. We talked a lot about small things and what I can do to improve my performance.”

Lacazette is showing good performance with Arsenal this season. The player scored eight goals and assisted in a single goal in the Premier League.

Arsenal has managed to sign the 26-year-old former Olympique Lyonnais striker last summer for £53 million ($68.5 million) for a five-season contract, with a weekly salary of £200,000 ($258,619), according to Super Kora.
