CAIRO – 9 December: AS Roma has several options to strengthen their midfield during the winter transfer period, most notably Real Madrid star Mateo Kovacic.

According to press reports in Italy on Saturday, Monchi, sporting director of AS Roma, is interested in signing the Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic as one of the proposed deals on the winter transfer market.

At the same time, the Italian website Tutto Mercato reported that Inter and AC Milan were also watching the player in Madrid with great interest.

The Croatian player finds it difficult to find his place in Real Madrid because French coach Zinedine Zidane relies on Tony Kroos, Luka Modric and Casemiro.

"I think I can be a trigger for the team; I'm ready," Kovacic said previously.

"I started the season very well and it's true that the injury put a stop to that, but I can still contribute. I want a more important role starting the beginning of the year,” he added.

The 23-year-old played for Inter Milan between 2013 and 2015.
