CAIRO – 4 December 2017: Real Madrid former player, Jorge Valdano, suggested that Real Madrid’s struggles in the Spanish League are a direct result of Madrid players being selfish on the pitch.

“One of the problems that the team has, is that of anxiety, Rather than sloppy play, I see players who want to win the game by themselves,” Valdano told Onda Cero on Monday.

Suffering in the Spanish League, Real Madrid, is currently sharing the fourth place with Sevilla, with 28 points. Madrid is currently eight points behind the leader, Barcelona.

Valdano added, “Results this season have not been good [for] Madrid and have created a perception of distrust, which leads to anxiety, and this has taken its toll"

Real Madrid attacking line of Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo and Francisco Alarcon, known as Isco, scored only eight goals together in the Spanish League.

Valdano spoke about Isco and Ronaldo’s crisis this season, “Isco is a very important player, but because of his efforts he tires at the end of games. Cristiano Ronaldo is also looking for goals from all sorts of situations and not linking up with Benzema.”

Valdano wore the Real Madrid jersey between 1984 and 1987, and managed the team between 1994 and 1996.
