CAIRO – 2 December 2017: Barcelona announced on Saturday that their French defender, Samuel Umtiti, will be out for eight weeks. The Frenchman suffered a muscle injury during Barcelona’s 2-2 draw against Celta Vigo.

“Tests confirmed that Samuel Umtiti has a hamstring injury in his right leg, and he is expected to be out for around eight weeks,” The Barcelona statement read.

Umtiti, 24 years old, is one of Barcelona’s key players this season. He played a great role in Barcelona’s amazing run in the Spanish League and the Champions League.

Barcelona’s statement added, “The French defender was injured in the 70th minute when he was chasing Iago Aspas in the buildup to Celta’s second goal. Umtiti will now miss the rest of 2017 and January of next year.”

Umtiti is expected to miss many tough fixtures for his team. He will miss Real Madrid, Villareal and Deportivo La Coruna in the Spanish League, and he will also miss Barcelona’s last group stage game against Sporting Lisbon.
