CAIRO – 12 November 2017: Famed Moroccan singer Samira Said expressed her happiness by posting a photo on her official Instagram account with her son, celebrating the qualification of Morocco’s national football team to the World Cup.

Morocco is qualifying to the World Cup for the first time since the 1998 tournament in France. The team beat Ivory Coast 2-0 on Saturday in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

Samira Said was born in Rabat, Morocco. She began singing at the age of nine and was discovered on the music program, Mawaheb, broadcast on Royal Moroccan TV, before she moved to Egypt and her fame around the Arab world began. She holds a dual nationality, both Moroccan and Egyptian.

Two goals took Morocco to the World Cup from the Ivorian capital Abidjan. Morocco leads the Atlas Lions by 12 points from 3 wins and 3 draws; the team scored 11 goals without conceding in the World Cup qualifiers.

This is Morocco's fifth qualification to the World Cup; previously it did in 1970, 1986, 1994 and 1998.
