CAIRO – 8 November 2017: Former Italian striker Christian Vieri offended English sports broadcaster Gary Lineker as the latter doubted Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema’s ability to be the team’s first choice in the striker position.

“I don't know why Lineker is on television,” Vieiri told beIN Sports USA on Wednesday.

Vieri added, “the thing is that he was a striker, so when a striker doesn't score in two games you're going to kill him? He should know better."

Lineker replied to Vieri’s criticism on his twitter account, writing, “he’s on TV to ask questions about football which, surprisingly, involves asking questions about footballers.”

Lineker started a campaign against Benzema and his coach in Madrid, Zinedine Zidane, who believes in the striker’s ability.

Lineker was a well-known striker; he wore England’s shirt for eight years, scoring 48 goals. He also represented many big clubs like Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspurs, Everton and Barcelona. He is presenting the BBC “Match of the Day” program.
