CAIRO – 07 November 2017: Didier Drogba, Cote d`ivoire legend, wished Mohamed Aboutrika a happy birthday as Aboutrika celebrates his 39th birthday on Tuesday.

Drogba tweeted “most underrated African legend, happy birthday Aboutrika.”




Aboutrika replied on the Ivoarian`s tweet by saying: “Thank you very much, the legend of Africa.”




The Confederation of African Football (CAF) wished Aboutrika a happy birthday by saying “happy 39th birthday to Egyptian and African legend Mohamed Aboutrika.”




Aboutrika is a retired Egyptian footballer. He played as a second striker and as an attacking midfielder for Tersana and Al-Ahly in Egypt, as well as Baniyas in the UAE. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest Egyptian players of all time.

Aboutrika came second in the African Footballer of the Year award in 2008 after Emmanuel Adebayor, and was one of five nominees for the 2006 award, and one of the ten nominated for the 2013 award. Aboutrika was chosen as Africa Best Player of the Year four times in 2006, 2008, 2012 and 2013. The award is given by CAF for players based in Africa.

Aboutrika won the African Cup of Nations in 2006 with the Egyptian national team, and he also scored the winning goal to help Egypt win the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations. He helped his team Ahly to win the bronze medal in the FIFA Club World Cup in 2006.
