CAIRO – 30 October 2017: The Egyptian hockey team was defeated by South Africa (1- 2) on Sunday in the final match of the African Championship hosted by Egypt.

The Pharaohs team qualified to the finals after they won their match against Ghana (4-0) on Saturday.

Egypt’s national field hockey team for men has defeated both Nigeria and Kenya before they ended their match against South Africa with a draw to play a final match.

There are five teams participating in the tournament: South Africa, Ghana, Kenya and Nigeria, as well as the host country Egypt.

The Board of Directors of the Hockey Federation, headed by Hany Hamouda, had decided to postpone the African Championship for three days, originally scheduled to start on October 19. The tournament was postponed because Zimbabwe and Namibia could not participate, causing a lack of participants.
