CAIRO – 27 September 2017: Real Madrid announced on Wednesday that the club has reached an agreement with the French defender Raphael Varane to extend his contract with the club until 2022.

Varane will sign his new contract with the club on Thursday at Santiago Bernabéu stadium before showing up to the media to speak about his new contract.

Varane is a Lens academy product. He joined the club academy when he was nine and got promoted to the youth ranking until he turned 17, when he played his first game with the first team.

Varane, 24, joined Real Madrid in 2011 when he was just 18 from his childhood club, Lens. Since then he has become a regular player in Real Madrid’s squad.

Madrid kept securing the club’s future after extending many players’ contracts in the last two weeks like Marcelo Vieira, Marcos Liorente, Karim Benzema, Dani Carvajal and Francisco Alarcon known as Isco.
