CAIRO – 15 September 2017 – Scotland's Celtic defender the Ivorian Abib Kolo Toure announced Friday his retirement and taking up of a coaching role at Celtic after a glorious football career.

Toure has appeared in a number of the biggest European teams, especially in the English Premier League, including three of the league’s top teams: Arsenal, Manchester City and Arsenal. Toure also had great moments with his national team Cote d’Ivoire in an era when the Elephants were one of the strongest teams in Africa, as he played alongside Didier Drogba and his younger brother, Yaya Toure.

Egypt Today previews some of the Ivorian defender’s statistics in European stadiums:

- Kolo Toure participated in 354 PL matches with the three big clubs: Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool, scoring 12 goals and assisting in 10 others. He received through his Premier League career 30 yellow cards and a single red card.


- He appeared in the Champions League 67 times, and scored two goals and assisted in a single goal. He received eight yellow cards and also a single red card.


- He played 327 games with Arsenal, the most of any teams Toure played for in the PL. He managed to score 14 goals and assist in 9 with the Gunners.


- The 36-year-old defender made 118 appearances in the Ivorian national team, scoring six goals, since his first participation with the Elephants in 2000, according to Super Kora.


Toure has announced on Celtic’s official Twitter account in a video that he will rejoin the team as a technical assistant.
