CAIRO – 10 September 2017: The Egyptian men’s national basketball team defeated South Africa 71-51 in the last game of the group stage of the 2017 Afrobasket on Sunday.

Egypt played in Group D alongside Mozambique, South Africa and the host nation Senegal.

Egypt won their first game against Mozambique 75-47; however they were defeated by Senegal 52-87.

Egypt will face Tunisia in the first qualifier. Morocco will face Uganda Sunday night. If Egypt and Morocco win their respective match, the quarterfinals will have an Arab clash.

The 2017 men’s Afrobasket is being jointly hosted by Tunisia and Senegal from September 8 -16.

Egypt`s squad in the 2017 AfroBasket tournament consists of:

Ramy Genedy, Ibrahim El Gamal, Youssef Shosha, Sameh Remeh, Moataz Okasha, Mohanad El Sabagh, Amr El Gendy, Haitham Helmy, Mostafa Mekkawy, Ahmed El Salaawy, Ramy Ibrahim and Ahmed Samy.
