CAIRO – 3 September 2017: Chelsea goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois apologized on Saturday to Atletico Madrid fans after his tweet celebrating his teammate, Diego Costa staying at Chelsea and not joining Atletico Madrid.

“I ask for forgiveness if I offended anyone, as that wasn't my intention,” Courtois told radio station, Ondacero.

Courtois celebrated Costa’s stay by posting a photo of both of them celebrating one of Chelsea’s titles with the comment; “he stays.”

Courtois, 25, represented Atletico Madrid on 3 years’ loan from 2011 to 2014 before returning to his original club, Chelsea. Courtois shared Atletico Madrid’s dressing room with the Spanish striker, Diego Costa.

Courtois said, “I have a lot of appreciation and respect for the Atletico Madrid fan base; it was just a joke between teammates."

Diego Costa, Spanish-Brazilian born striker was linked with rejoining Atletico Madrid after he had many problems with his coach in Chelsea, Antonio Conte, but in the end Atletico couldn’t reach an agreement with Chelsea to bring Costa to the club.
