Egypt beats Mozambique, qualifies to second round

CAIRO – 23 August 2017: Egypt defeated Mozambique 91-70 on Wednesday during their last group stage match in the 2017 Women’s AfroBasket. Egypt qualified to the second round.

Egypt dominated the game from its start. They won the first quarter 32-19, but Mozambique players returned to the game in the second quarter, scoring 19 points, while Egypt scored just 12 points.

The Egyptian team won the third and fourth quarter 19-12 and 28-20, respectively, to win the game 91-70.

Egypt achieved their third victory in the group stage after beating Mozambique, DR Congo and Guinea; they only lost two games, against Senegal and Nigeria.

Egypt qualified for the second round and placed third in the Group B rankings. The Egyptian team will play against Group A for second place on Friday in the quarter-finals.

Egypt played in Group B alongside Nigeria, DR Congo, Guinea, Mozambique and the reigning champions, Senegal.

Mali is hosting the 2017 Women’s AfroBasket from August 18-27.
