Sundowns secure qualification to CAFCL quarter-finals after beating Al Ahly 5-2

CAIRO, 12 March 2023: South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns secured qualification for the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League, after its great victory over Al-Ahly, 5-2.
 
Sundowns raised their points tally to 10 at the top of the group, followed by Al-Hilal of Sudan, with 9 points.
 
Al-Ahly suffered a five goals defeat against Sundowns, in the match that brought them together on Saturday, at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in South Africa, in the fourth round of the group stage in the African Champions League.
 
Marcelo Allende, the Sundowns star, scored the first goal against Al-Ahly club in the third minute, and Mohamed Sherif equalized the score for Al-Ahly club in the 13th minute. Zwani, the Sundowns star, added the second goal against Al-Ahly club in the 24th minute, and Mokoena, the Sundowns star, scored the third goal in the club’s net. Al-Ahly in the 40th minute, and in the second half, Percy Tau narrowed the difference by scoring the second goal for Al-Ahly in the 62nd minute, but Shaluleli managed to score the fourth goals in the 73rd minute and the fifth in the 88th minute of the match.
 
Al-Ahly’s position in the African Championship become worse, after they achieved only 4 points from 4 matches, with two matches left against Cotton Sport in Cameroon, then Al-Hilal of Sudan in Cairo.
 
Al-Ahly started with a formation that includes: Mohamed Al-Shennawi, Mohamad Abdel-Moneim, Ali Maaloul, Yasser Ibrahim, Mohamed Hani, Hamdi Fathi, Aliou Dieng, Ahmed Qandousi, Percy Tao, Taher Muhammad Taher and Mohamed Sherif.
 
While the Sun Downs squad included: Williams, Juliso Modao, Grant Kikana, Motobi Mvala, Aubrey Modiba and Thibahu Mokoena, Marcelo Allende, Maima Wazwani, Cassius Melola, St. Peter Shaluleel.
