CAIRO - 5 May 2022: Real Madrid booked their place in the UEFA Champions League final for the 17th time in the club's history after a sensational comeback over Manchester City on Wednesday.

Real Madrid were out of the competition only one minute before the final whistle as they were two goals behind in the tie but a sensational brace in the space of one minute from their Brazilian youngster Rodrygo took the game to extra-time.

Karim Benzema converted a penalty in the first half of the extra time to secure a 3-1 win for Real Madrid, who won the tie 6-5 and booked their place in the final in Paris against Liverpool.

Manchester City entered the game as favourites thanks to their 4-3 win at home in the first leg and a goal from Riyad Mahrez boosted their chances but Real Madrid once again made a spectacular fightback to win the game.

"The opposition were strong. The game was very complete and the team didn’t give up. After Manchester City scored it became much more difficult, but we were committed. We were lucky and had the energy. The players gave everything because it was such an intense game." Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid manager, said after the game.

Real Madrid and Liverpool will meet in the final on 28 May in Paris. The two teams faced off in the competition's final on two previous occasions.

In 1981 final in Paris, Liverpool defeated the Spanish giants 1-0 while Los Blancos won the 2018 final 3-1 in a match remembered for the early injury of Liverpool's Egyptian star Mohamed Salah.
