CAIRO-24 December 2021: Al Ahly announced on Friday that the team's Tunisian defender Ali Maaloul and the team's Malian midfielder Aliou Dieng are going to participate in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

The duo has been called-up by their national teams to participate in the competition.

Maaloul missed the previous edition of the competition in 2019 after being left out of the final squad in an odd decision by the then national team manager Alain Giresse.

Maaloul and his teammates hope to follow the steps of the nation's golden generation, who won the title at home in 2004, which is the only major success of the Eagles of Carthage in the competition.

On the other hand, Dieng steps up as one of the best midfielders in the continent and he is ready to represent his nation in the competition for the first time.

The Malian team sent very strong message to the African teams after securing their spot in the final round of African qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Maaloul and Dieng alongside the Egyptian players who will be selected to participate in the competition will miss the preparations of the Red Eagles for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.
