CAIRO-19 November 2021: Mikel Arteta, Arsenal manager, stated that it is not the time to discuss the situation of Mohamed Elneny, the club's midfielder, as he moves into the final six months of his contract.

"I’m really happy with Mo. I will not be discussing the individual fates of the players as it’s not the time to do so.” Arteta said.

The Egyptian midfielder has been linked with a move away from the Gunners as Turkish giants, Galatasaray, showed interest in signing the player.

According to Elneny's agent, Alaa Nazmy, the negotiations between the player and his club to extend his contract were shelved following the player's comments on one of the global events that took place last May.

Nazmy said "We were in negotiations with the club between March and May and we were close to reaching an agreement but everything stopped following Elneny's comments on a global event last May."

In May, Elneny tweeted to show solidarity with the Palestinian people against the Israeli government.

Nazmy added "Arsenal is the number one choice for Elneny. We have offers from England, Italy and Turkey."

The midfielder featured in two matches with Arsenal in the Premier League this season.
