CAIRO-13 November 2021: Ahmed Megahed, president of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA), stated that Pyramids players will not join the national team's squad for the FIFA Arab Cup.

"They will play two games in the CAF Confederation Cup on 30 November and 5 December and they will not be available for the competition." Megahed said.

Qatari capital, Doha, hosts the tournament between 30 November and 18 December as a prelude for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Pharaohs preliminary squad for the competition included 9 players from Pyramids so the EFA requested to make changes to the squad.

The squad included 34 players from the Egyptian Premier League in addition to Ahmed Hegzai, who plays for Al Ittihad Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.

Megahed added "The FIFA Arab Cup is a great preparation for the team before participating in the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon."

Egypt plays in Group D of the competition alongside Algeria, Lebanon and Sudan.
