CAIRO-4 November 2021: The Cairo derby between Al Ahly and Zamalek will see Egyptian referees in charge of the biggest game of the season.

Essam Abdelfattah, head of the referees committee, stated that Mohamed Adel and Mahmoud El Banna are the candidates to officiate the match, which will be played on Friday night at Cairo International Stadium.

“Adel and El Banna are the two shortlisted referees for the game. Also, we will have an international referee as the VAR referee for the match.” Abdelfattah said.

Following their success in officiating the derby last season, the referees committee decided to appoint an Egyptian referee for the top-of-the-table clash, which has been witnessing the presence of foreign referees for a long time.

“Having an Egyptian referee in charge of the biggest game in the country for the third straight occasion is a great success and reflects the trust that we have in our referees.” Abdelfattah added.
