CAIRO-18 September 2021: Hungary’s Telekom Veszprém Egyptian star, Yahia Omar, was named the best player in the first round of the EHF Champions League.

The Egyptian had a breathtaking performance, leading his team to defeat star-studded Paris Saint Germain 34-31.

Yahia scored 10 goals, assisted another six to help his team open the new Champions League season with a victory.

PSG were leading the game at the break by four goals but the home team fought back in the second half, pulling off a sensational comeback.

“It was an amazing first game for me in Champions League. I’m very satisfied with the victory. The players have shown real character in the second half.” Momir Ilic, Telekom Veszprém head coach, said after the game.

The Egyptian star comes third in the top goal-scorers list behind Niclas Ekberg of THW Kiel and Raul Nantes of Dinamo București, who both lead the list with 11 goals each.

The Hungarian team will travel to Poland to face Lomza Vive Kielce in the second round on 23 September.
