CAIRO-16 September 2021: Wael Gomaa, Egypt national team new director, stated that he hopes that Mohamed Salah can join the national team in the upcoming two matches in the African World Cup Qualifiers against Libya.

"Mohamed Salah is a very important player for the national team and we want him to play against Libya. We are hoping for a change in the COVID-19 restrictions in the UK to be able to count on him in the two matches." Gomaa said.

Salah missed Egypt’s opening game in the qualifiers against Angola as the Premier League clubs refused to release their players to avoid 10-day quarantine on their return to England from countries included in the UK's red-list.

He joined the team to participate in the second round of the qualifiers against Gabon in Franceville and the Pharaohs managed to secure a last-minute draw away from home.

Egypt comes second in the group with four points while Libya are atop of the group table with six points from two wins.

Gomaa added "We will start our preparations for the game against Libya on 28 September and we will play a friendly match two days later."

Carlos Queiroz, Egypt national team new manager, is set to announce the team's squad for Libya matches on 26 September.
